U.S. Court Opinions (LAW.co corpus)

Federal and state court opinions in the LAW.co corpus: opinion text, case name, court, jurisdiction, decision date, docket number, reporter citations, judges, parties and attorneys. Narrow tables, narrow claims

The estate-planning statute reference values are a small table LAW.co's attorney team curates to drive document generation: state, category, provision, value, effective date and a government source URL. Accuracy and redistribution rights are not yet confirmed, so it is listed as contact-only.

The bill monitor is a weekly LegiScan keyword scan for estate-planning bills. LegiScan's terms have not been confirmed for redistribution, so it is restricted and not available through Data.co.

State court opinions

State supreme and intermediate appellate courts produce most of the published case law in the U.S. The opinion dataset includes state-court material from the legacy CAP corpus and newer CourtListener ingestion. Coverage is uneven by state and year, and the provider documents under-covered recent years.

What would be needed for full state codes

Each state publishes its own statutes and administrative code, in different formats, on different schedules, sometimes with copyright claims on annotations. A usable corpus needs per-section text, version history with effective dates, a source URL for each version and a clear rights position per state. No provider has listed that yet.

Provenance on every record

Whatever the topic, each legal record carries the same provenance fields, so you can tell source text from derived work and cite it correctly.

provider / sourceId
Who served the record and its id at that provider.
upstreamSource
Where the provider got it (for example CAP or CourtListener), or null if not stated.
canonicalUrl
Public URL for the record, when one exists.
licenseId
The license that applies, such as public domain for court-authored text.
isDerived
false for original text and facts; true for AI or editorial layers.
retrievedAt
When Data.co fetched it from the provider.

Access today

Individual cases can be read now on LAW.co's own public case pages. REST API and MCP access through Data.co are live for court opinions, case summaries and the citation graph. Previews on this site are synthetic samples titled [DEMO] that are never billed; the API returns live records. Bulk downloads stay closed until the provider confirms redistribution rights.

Each dataset page shows its status channel by channel, with the reason for anything that is not open, so you can plan an integration without guessing.

Questions

State: common questions

Can I look up a state's estate-planning thresholds?

The reference table holds values like these, but it is contact-only while the provider confirms accuracy and rights. Contact us with your use case.

Why is the bill monitor restricted?

Its data comes from LegiScan under LAW.co's API key. Redistribution depends on LegiScan's terms, which have not been confirmed, so Data.co does not serve it.

Is the reference table statute text?

No. It holds curated values (for example a threshold amount) with a provision reference, an effective date and a government source URL — not the statute's wording.
