What is the most valuable unicorn startup?

Anthropic, at $965 billion. The maker of Claude raised $65 billion in a Series H round in May 2026 at that post-money valuation, and it is the top company on the Crunchbase Unicorn Board as of November 7, 2026. OpenAI is second at $852 billion, set when it closed a $122 billion round in March 2026.

Anthropic may not hold the title for long. On October 26, 2026, it filed an S-1 with the SEC for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq under the symbol "ANT." Once a unicorn goes public it leaves the board, as SpaceX, then the board's most valuable company, did when it listed in June 2026.

What are the most valuable unicorn companies in 2026?

The ten most valuable unicorns are Anthropic ($965 billion), OpenAI ($852 billion), ByteDance ($480 billion), Databricks ($190 billion), Stripe ($159 billion), Ant Group ($150 billion), Waymo ($126 billion), Revolut ($115 billion), DeepSeek ($90.8 billion) and Ramp ($61.9 billion). Seven more are valued at $40 billion or more: Anduril, Moonshot AI, Cognition, Prometheus, Checkout.com, Ripple and Kalshi (Figure 2).

AI labs dominate the top. Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek and Moonshot AI are frontier model developers, and DeepSeek's October round of $15.9 billion was the largest venture deal ever for a Chinese company, according to Crunchbase. Anthropic and OpenAI together are worth $1.82 trillion, slightly more than the next 18 unicorns combined.

How many unicorn companies are there?

1,920, according to the Crunchbase Unicorn Board on November 7, 2026, with a combined value of $9.5 trillion and $1.62 trillion in total equity funding. A unicorn is a privately held company valued at $1 billion or more in a priced funding round.

Counts depend on the tracker. CB Insights lists 1,447 unicorns with a cumulative valuation of about $7.4 trillion. Its list is updated less often and uses its own inclusion rules, so the two totals should not be compared directly.

How concentrated is unicorn value?

Very. The top 10 unicorns, 0.5% of the board, hold 33.6% of its value, or $3.19 trillion (Figure 1). The next 90 hold another 19.4%. The 1,420 least valuable unicorns, three-quarters of the board, hold 23.8% between them.

The typical unicorn is small by these standards. The median company on the board is valued at $1.8 billion, and 988 of the 1,920 are valued between $1 billion and $2 billion (Figure 4). Only 12 are valued at $50 billion or more.

Which country has the most unicorns?

The United States, with 985 of the 1,920 unicorns, or 51.3%. Because its companies include the largest AI labs, the U.S. holds an even larger share of value: 61.1% (Figure 3). China is second with 320 unicorns (16.7%) and 17.9% of value, followed by the United Kingdom (88), India (83) and Germany (48).

India is the clearest case of the opposite pattern: 4.3% of the board's companies but 2.3% of its value, as its unicorns are smaller on average.

How many new unicorns were there in 2026?

195 companies joined the Crunchbase board in the first half of 2026, more than the 193 that joined in all of 2025. Through September the count reached 311, which Crunchbase says puts 2026 on track for the second-highest year for new unicorns after 2021, when counts topped 600.

July was the busiest month, with 40 new unicorns, the highest monthly total in more than four years (Figure 5). The United States produced 110 of the first half's 195 new unicorns and China 38, up from 10 in all of 2025. DeepSeek was the most valuable newcomer of the first half, joining at $50 billion in its first outside financing.

Which unicorns went public or were acquired in 2026?

SpaceX's June IPO, which raised $85.7 billion, was the largest venture-backed exit on record, according to Crunchbase. In the third quarter, the largest exit was China's ChangXin Memory Technologies, a DRAM chipmaker that listed at an $85.5 billion valuation (Figure 6). Shein followed at $26.3 billion, well below its 2022 private valuation of $100 billion, and AI chipmaker Enflame at $25.5 billion.

Chipmakers led acquisitions. Nvidia agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion and AMD announced a deal for World Labs at $8.2 billion, while Stripe agreed to acquire AI model router OpenRouter for $7.5 billion.

Methodology & caveats

Valuations, funding totals and countries come from the Crunchbase Unicorn Board as published on November 7, 2026. Crunchbase ranks companies by the post-money valuation of their latest priced funding round. It does not use 409A valuations or investor write-downs, so a company's value on the board can be months old and higher or lower than what it would fetch today. Companies whose latest round valued them below $1 billion stay on the board unless investors deem them worthless; 44 such companies are included in the 1,920.

We used the exact values in the board's table rather than the rounded figures it displays. The tier sums and shares in Figure 1, the value ranges in Figure 4 and the country shares in Figure 3 are our own calculations from that table; they total $9,489.66 billion against the board's rounded headline of $9.5 trillion. Twenty-five companies have no country listed and are left out of Figure 3.

Anthropic's and OpenAI's valuations were checked against the companies' own announcements. Monthly new-unicorn counts in Figure 5 are as first reported in Crunchbase News's monthly posts; Crunchbase's half-year and year-to-date totals are higher because companies are added after the fact. Exit values in Figure 6 mix IPO valuations and acquisition prices, as reported by Crunchbase for Q3 2026. Other trackers, such as CB Insights, use different inclusion rules and report different totals.
